Unclaimed Funds Assistance Workshops

Want to learn more about Unclaimed Funds? Assemblyman Karim Camara is sponsoring Unclaimed Funds Assistance Workshops for the community. There are over $65 million in unclaimed funds in the 43rd Assembly District alone! Attend one of these workshops to find out if some of this money belongs to you and learn more about how simple it is to claim these unused funds. Businesses are required by New York State law to surrender inactive accounts to the State. These accounts are known as unclaimed funds. The Office of the State Comptroller serves as custodian of this money. Until the money is claimed, it is used by the State’s General Funds. BlockStar2: Brooklyn Presented to the Community

Calling all skaters! Want a day of skating without too many restrictions? The Park Place Improvement Block Association with the aid of the Hampton,Sterling,Virgina Place, and Kingston Avenue Block Association in conjunction with SDC Productions are inviting all skaters to BlockStar2:Brooklyn on July 17, 2010. If you are a beginner do not hesitate, The Uptown Skate School will be there from 1-3PM providing any adventurous new comer with the opportunity to pick up a new hobby. All levels of skater skills are invited to come and enjoy the food, exercise, and fun. With its previous success, this is the second time this year that BlockStar2:Brooklyn is being presented to the community. So let’s make the event more successful than the first time around!

Free Outdoor Movie Nights Series

While taking a stroll down Franklin Avenue, stop by the Brooklyn Museum to watch a free movie and enjoy the warm summer night. Wednesday July 21st at 8:30PM marks the commencement of the Free Outdoor Movie Nights series sponsored by Senator Eric Adams of the 20th senatorial district. FREE summer meals for KIDS

School is out, and FREE summer meals are in, from June 29th through August 27th. Any child 18 years old and under can enjoy a free, healthy, and great-tasting breakfast and lunch every weekday at hundreds of schools, pools, parks, New York City Housing Authority complexes, and other locations around New York City. No registration, documentation, or ID is required: your child doesn’t even need to be enrolled in public school to enjoy a delicious free meal. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Finding a summer meals site near you is easy: just call 311 to find a convenient location or click here to learn more about the program.

Free IT Training: Ages 18-24.....internship opportunity If you know any one with a high school diploma or a GED who are between the ages of 18-24 yrs old and have an interest in IT. Refer them to this site http://www.yearup.org to learn more about this free program. This program asks for a 1 year commitment between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. They provide the student with a stipend and after six months, internships at companies such as Freddie Mac and AOL to name a few.

READ: JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS

READ trains and supports high school students to provide structured, research-based one-to-one tutoring to at-risk kindergarten and first grade students in basic reading skills. READ tutors have ongoing training, and all tutoring is done under the supervision of licensed teachers. The READ summer programs run 3.5 hours a day for 23-25 days, usually on the same schedule as the Department of Education summer school. READ tutors earn $8.50 per hour. NYC HISTORIC PROPERTIES FUND

Funding Historic Restorations Crow Hill has been designated a historic district and therefore property owners wishing to make historic renovations may qualify for the Historic Properties Fund which offers low-interest loans and project management assistance to owners of historic residential, non-profit, religious, and commercial properties throughout the City – mostly in low- to moderate-income communities. Since 1982, the Historic Properties Fund has assisted over 200 buildings.
