OPENING AT FIVEMYLES GALLERY

To Gather
Opening Reception: Saturday August 6, 5-8 pm
Performances begin at 6 pm

Part performance, part installation, part gathering place, To Gather; is a collection of performative and architectural artifacts from a cross section of Crown Heights’ social spaces. Bringing a local perspective to urban flux, the artwork raises questions about perceptions of ‘authenticity’ in a rapidly changing neighborhood.
Visitors to the installation in FiveMyles Garage are encouraged to hang out on the stoop, converse in the makeshift pulpit, and relax in the barbershop chair. Erik da Barber will be on hand opening night, as well as hip-hop duo DobleFlo, vocal artist Malesha Jessie, poet Lynne Procope, and comedian Elon James White. For the remainder of the exhibition, the public is invited to linger and use the artwork as their own gathering place.

To Gather;

SOUND WALK

SOUND WALK
Sunday, Nov 28th
6PM, meet at Force and Flow
1102 Dean St. #4
$15 suggested donation, no one turned away for lack of funds

Our monthly Sound Bath series returns with a very special installment of sonic immersion - a guided Sound Walk! On Sunday, Nov 28 Katie will lead us on a walking meditation on how we hear through the streets of Brooklyn. We will take turns, half the group at a time, walking blindfolded so that our listening senses become heightened as our ears become ever more finely tuned to the sonic environment around us. Walkers will experience the phenomenon of deep listening through other senses such as touch, taste, and smell, getting in touch with the soundscapes we usually take for granted. This is a sonic adventure not to be missed, a great way to get to know the neighborhood and to walk off all that extra Thanksgiving food!!! Bring a warm hat and coat, and if it decides to rain on us we'll do a more traditional Sound Bath indoors.
For more info please contact us at info@forceandflow.com

FUN & FUNDRAISER FOR A NEW COMMUNITY SPACE

LAUNCHPAD Pencil Party (...And Silent Auction...)

Do you ever wish there were more places for grassroots social gatherings? Where people can meet to share random ideas, hard goods, fun services, delicious food, and hearty laughter? Yeah, us too! So we'd like to create one...

LaunchPad: A future homebase for creative minds and curious spirits; a mixed use community space in New York City where people can rally together, trigger ideas, launch projects, and have tons of fun.

read more here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/LaunchPad/launchpad

"What's the pencil party?", you ask. Well it goes a little like this - you show up and get a pencil. Then you step into the future home of LaunchPad, where all the walls are white. After that it's just some simple math... Your creativity + pencils + white walls * (music + drinks) = pencil party. Fun, right?

The night will also include a silent auction with amazing items donated by various artists and crafters. All winning bids go directly toward the LaunchPad project. And there's a fun twist: the artists/crafters who attract the 3 highest bids in the auction will receive their own LaunchPad exhibit in the near future. The exhibit will include an opening party and a one month display of work.

So come join us! And please spread the word.

Saturday, March 6 at 7pm
721 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

Pencil it in. ;-) The party won't stop until the last person walks out the door.

We can't wait to see you there!

P.S. We're currently accepting submissions for the auction. Anyone who is interested in donating a piece of work should please contact us quickly: art@BrooklynLaunchPad.org
